With a chain of 16 Dick’s Wings in and around Jacksonville Florida Dick’s Wings has become the quintessential Jacksonville redneck wings place. With tons of TV’s and a Nascar theme Dick’s is a fairly good place to catch a game or just stop in for some wings or tenders. They even have 30 different sauces to spice up your wings and tenders. We stopped in to catch the Jags game this past Sunday. The place was fairly full and the crowd was definitely into the game. One thing you’ll really appreciate if you’re a fan of another NFL team or if you show up on a Saturday for college football is they label each TV with which game will be on it so you can choose your seat according to which game you want to watch.
Food: We led off with the fried pickles ($4.99). Dick’s fried pickles are cut thinly into pickle chips. They are crispy and delicious with just the right amount of breading. Dick’s are my favorite fried pickles in Jax so far. We tried two types of wings. First we started with something basic. Medium buffalo wings. These were decent with good flavor and a bit of a peppery kick. I’m not normally a huge fan of peppery flavor but I enjoyed these. The 2nd style of wings we tried were Georgia girl flavor-“Our own special blend of Bourbon, Teriyaki, and Garlic pepper”. These tasted a lot like Bourbon chicken you’d get from The Big Easy Cajun restaurant at the malls but with a bit of peppery kick. They were good but the sauce was a bit stickier and heavier than a standard buffalo wing sauce. The sauce a lot of people love at Dick’s is the Cajun ranch. It has a rich blend of Cajun flavoring and ranch and is very heavy. People absolutely love it. It’s too heavy for me. Then again I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to wings and most sauces just take away from the experience for me. The wings come with waffle fries or potato wedges. Both are good options. We went with the waffle fries. They were crispy salted enough but not too much and cooked correctly. As far as how their mild medium and hot wings run: I would go with mild if you want no spice at all. Medium if you want some kick but not super spicy. Hot if you want pretty spicy to burn your mouth a bit. For those of you who like to set your mouth on fire you can venture into Great balls of fire or Swamp fever. !0 wings will run you $10.99
Service: The service at Dick’s is usually pretty solid. This time was no exception. Our waitress was attentive and not pushy as we ate in a leisurely fashion watching the game.
Positives:
- Solid wings
- Good place to watch a game
- Great fried pickle chips
Negatives:
