We took a little trip to Daytona and just happened into one of the coolest Burger bars I’ve ever seen. Only open since July 2013, the Daytona Taproom offers a unique spin on many old favorites. How about a burger squeezed between two Krispy Kreme doughnuts with bacon and two fried eggs topped with milk gravy? Clog every artery??? Yes! But delicious? I imagine so! How about a fried chicken waffle sandwich with bacon jam? Yeah they’ve got that too! This place won’t be good for your waistline but you’ll definitely find some fried or grilled deliciousness. In addition to lots of cool burger options they’ve also got a craft beer list so long they write it all the way down the wall.
Food: We kicked off our food adventure with the Buffalo Chips- Hand Cut potato chips smothered in our special sriracha fusion sauce and topped with bacon and bleu cheese crumbles. I watched the cook slice up a potato and fry the chips fresh right in front of us! These had amazing flavor. They were a bit sweet with a definite sriracha flavor and a strong kick to them. The bleu cheese was melted just enough but not so much that it completely liquefied. A great starter! Next up was The Bob Marley- A jerk spiced chicken thigh grilled and topped with mango chutney, bleu cheese crumbles and our Caribbean hemp seed mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions. This sandwich was awesome. They typically make it pretty spicy but they can make it mild if you prefer. This sandwich had great flavor. The mango chutney paired perfectly with the bleu cheese for a strong and sweet flavor combination. The chicken was seasoned fantastically as well. This was definitely one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches I’ve had. We also tried the fries which again were cut up and fried right in front of us. They were salted just right and had a great fresh flavor. Last we had the pork belly sliders. These are definitely something you’ll wanna try if you like pork belly($6 including fries). I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a minute to talk about the sodas. Normally when the waitress tells me they only have all natural sodas I’m irritated that I can’t just have a coke with my meal. In this case I tried the grape soda and it was actually really good. If you like grape soda don’t miss it.
Service: We walked in, sat down at the bar and were promptly greeted by a very friendly hippie chick who took our order. She was able to tell us in detail about all the different menu items. You could tell she had tried and appeared to genuinely like most of the menu. Her passion had us excited about the food even before we got our first item. She took good care of us and stuck around to make conversation while we ate since there was no one else in the restaurant. We were in at 3pm so it’s not unusual for a place to be empty around that time. Good company and great food made for a wonderful experience. The chef was out front as we were getting in our car and he actually took a minute to thank us for coming in. The folks at the taproom were very intentional about making us feel appreciated.
All of the food described in the review cost right around $22.
I was recently asked by a friend I was traveling with if I’ve found any restaurant I would give a ten out of ten. I honestly couldn’t say yes until now. I would rate Daytona Taproom a 10 out of 10 for the burger bar category.
