Chicken Salad Chick is a restaurant that serves upwards of 15 types (the exact number can vary because of seasonal offerings) of chicken salad. Yes, you read that correctly, it’s a restaurant that centers on chicken salad. They currently have 3 locations in Jacksonville and are expanding all over the southeast (the company started in Alabama).
On this visit we tried the Classic Carol, Luau Lydia (with pineapple and macadamia nuts), Mimi’s Mix (Fuji apples and cashews), Dixie Chick (“for the onion lover”), Sassy Scotty (ranch, bacon, and cheddar cheese), and Kickin’ Kay Lynne (buffalo sauce, ranch, bacon, cheddar cheese, and jalapenos) as well as the pasta salad and broccoli salad sides. There are not only myriad options of chicken salad styles but there are also many options for how your chicken salad is served. You can order the chicken salad by the pound, on a sandwich, or served over lettuce (as pictured).
We started off with the Classic Carol, their original chicken salad. It’s a very middle of the road pick and exactly what you expect from a classic chicken salad. The Luau Lydia was the sweetest of our selections. The pineapple gave it a nice sweetness and the macadamia nuts added a nice crunch. Mimi’s Mix was not quite as sweet as the Luau Lydia but still full of flavor with a nice contrast between the apples and the cashews.
The menu calls the Dixie Chick their “most offensive salad” and that’s not a joke. This one is perfect for onion lovers but you might need some gum afterwards! The Sassy Scotty and Kickin’ Kay Lynne both contain ranch, bacon, and cheddar cheese but differ much more than you might expect. The Kickin’ Kay Lynne has a real kick to it (especially any bite with jalapeno in it), making it our favorite of the evening.
Chicken Salad Chick also has a handful of side item choices including a seasonal salad, broccoli salad, grape salad, pasta salad, fruit, potato chips, and soups. The pasta salad is a perfectly zesty mix of pasta, Italian dressing, feta and parmesan cheese, black olives, and artichoke hearts. The broccoli salad is covered in a vinegar-based dressing with cheese (mozzarella and cheddar) and bacon. It’s a unique choice and makes for a tangy accompaniment of the chicken salad.
The idea of a restaurant with a menu of chicken salads may seem limited but Chicken Salad Chick proves that wrong. There are many options for every type of taste. The restaurant itself is bright and happy with a friendly staff that can answer any questions you have about what order will satisfy your taste buds.
